Zamfara College Students, Staff Abductors Make Heavy Demand

Bandits who took students and members of staff of the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Bakura in Zamfara State have demanded N350 million as ransom.

The abductors took some students and teachers of the College of Agriculture and Animal Health in Bakura, Zamfara State on Monday. The abduction was confirmed by the Deputy Registrar of the college, Aliyu Bakura while speaking with BBC Hausa.

Speaking to The PUNCH on the telephone, the Provost of the College, Alhaji Habibu Mainasara said, the bandits have called him.

He stated that the terrorists told him they “needed N350 million for the 20 people currently in their captivity”.

“They said that the money must be paid before they could release the staff and the students they kidnapped in my school,” he added.

He however did not disclose if the families of the affected staff and students would pay the amount or the state government.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Mohammed Shehu, denied knowledge of the bandits demands.

“We are not aware of this development but we are doing our best to rescue the kidnapped victims,” he said.
