LG Elections: LASIEC visits local governments, hails council boss

Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) in preparation for the 2021 local government election in Lagos State has begun her familiarisation visit to Local government and Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in the state. Thursday, 6th August is the turn of Ojokoro LCDA, the land of prosperity to receive the independent body as she prepares for her duties coming us in 2021.

The Executive Chairman of Ojokoro LCDA, Hon. Hammed Idowu D. Tijani (HID) while speaking with the officers of LASIEC led by the LASIEC Chairman, Justice Ayotnde Philips (rtd) ably represented by Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi expressed appreciation as LASIEC remains independent which is evident in the last election.

The council boss used the opportunity to commend the LASIEC for the previous election in the council as it is evident that the body is truly independent.

“The general acceptance of the outcome of the last and previous elections in the state is a clearer indication of the fact that the Commission remains unbiased, uncompromising and very transparent in all its affairs, as an independent electoral body. This is quite commendable and worthy of emulation by other state electoral bodies in the Country”, he said.

The council boss further made known that the HID Tijani’s administration has made the office of the electoral umpire more conducive to give them an enabling and a more conducive atmosphere to operate in the forthcoming election and beyond.

“I am very glad to inform all the Officials on this important familiarization visit that our administration has provided a conductive office accommodation with furniture, for the Electoral Officer and the supporting staff in our LCDA. This is not done to influence the activities of the Commission in our LCDA, but just as a motivation for better performances and efficient service delivery”, HID Tijani said.

Hon. Hammed further assured that, the government will continue to be of assistance to the LASIEC.

“As partners in progress, our administration shall continue to be of tremendous assistance to your Commission in its efforts to ensure the conduct of free, fair, credible and acceptable elections in Lagos State, particularly, as the Commission prepares for the next local government election in the state”, he concluded.

The honourable commissioner commended the contributions of the council boss most especially for making the office conducive and comfortable and noting that the election into the office of the chairman will be in 2021 and not

“We are here as part of our preparation for the next year election. As you might be aware and we are going to have the election in 2021 and it’s not going to be earlier than 150days or later than 130days to the expiration of your tenure”, he said.

We have been going around to look at the state of our offices and we thank you for providing the place and making our officers comfortable. We thank you for welcoming us and also for accomodating us.

Also present at the familiarization visit are the legislative members, Executive members, management members of the LCDA. The honourable commissioner did not come alone but with his entourage and thy include  Dr. Noah Jinadu Lawal, Prof. Gabriel Babawale, Chief Mrs. Toyin Ibrahim Famakinwa Tijani, Mr. Segun Ayedun Fasu, Mrs. Sinat Fadipe Bandele and a host of others.
