The House of Representatives has resolved to sue Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio for alleged perjury and defamation of the parliament.
Akpabio during the House Committee grill while appearing before the House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission at an investigative hearing set up to unravel the management and operation of the NDDC COmmission.
He alleged and accused members of the National Assembly to have gotten 60 per cent of contracts from the commission.
The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila upon hearing such gave 48hrs ultimatum to Senator Ngige to provide the names and list of members of the National Assembly who are beneficiary within 24 – 48 hours and the contracts awarded.
At the opening of the senate’s plenary, Gbajabiamila announced that Akpabio had failed to meet the ultimatum issued to him, to prove his allegation while the senate moves to sue Ngige.
Speaking at the session to distinguish members of the house further noted that the minister has failed present his claims and as such he is guilty of not coming fouth with his claim.
“The honourable minister has failed to respond to my requests,” he said.
Gbajabiamila as then requested the Clerk to the House, Patrick Giwa, to consult the Legal Department on how to institute legal action against Akpabio for perjury and criminal defamation.
