4. The University of Cape Coast:

The University of Cape Coast is a public collegiate research university located in Cape CoastGhana. It is regarded as one of the best ten Ghanaian Universities. The university was established in 1962 out of a dire need for highly qualified and skilled manpower in education. It was established to train graduate teachers for second cycle institutions such as teacher training colleges and technical institutions, a mission that the two existing public universities at the time were unequipped to fulfil.

7. Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA):

Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) is a public university with over four campuses (Accra, Tema, Kumasi, and Takoradi) and made up four schools, four research centres located at Greenhill in Accra, Ghana. It was established as a public university by an Act of Parliament in 2004.

The institute was established in 1961 by the Government of Ghana with assistance from the United Nations Special Fund Project and was called the Institute of Public Administration. It is coeducational.

GIMPA offers master’s and executive master’s degree programs in business administration, public administration, development management, governance, leadership, and technology. 

Admission Requirements

  1. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE), and West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) candidates:
  • SSSCE Candidates: Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
  • WASSCE Candidates: Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.

2. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level candidates:

  • Passes in three (3) GCE Advanced Level subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better).
  • Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics, a Science subject (for non-science students), and Art’s subject (for science students).

3. Admission of Higher National Diploma (HND) candidates to first-degree programs:

  • The applicant must have graduated with a good HND certificate (at least a second class lower division).
  • Also, the applicant must have acquired a minimum of two (2) years post-HND qualification working experience.
  • Other diploma qualifications from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) may be similarly considered.


8. Valley View University:

Valley View University was established in 1979 by the West African Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists (now Ghana Union Conference). In 1997 it was absorbed into the Adventist University system operated by the West-Central Africa Division (WAD) with headquarters in AbidjanCôte d’Ivoire.

The Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA) has, since 1983, been evaluating and reviewing the accreditation status of the institution. In 1995, the university was affiliated to Griggs University in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. This allowed the university to offer four-year bachelor’s degrees in Theology and Religious Studies.

The National Accreditation Board (Ghana) granted it national accreditation in 1995 thus allowing the university to award her degrees. Valley View University became the first private institution in Ghana to be granted national accreditation and still in the best ten Ghanaian Universities.

How to Apply for Admission into Ghana University

Generally, to gain admission into a Ghanaian university requires that students meet with all the necessary Ghanaian admission requirements. Admission into undergraduate studies requires that students must present certain documents such as WAEC results: This includes science subjects, English, Math.
