A Non-Governmental organization, known as COVIDNGFOODSECURITY Task Force, has joined the Lagos State government on her efforts to cushion effects of the stay at home order placed on the people as a way of containing the spread of Corona virus, also known as COVID-19 in the state.
The group, led by Mr. Benjamin Aduli, one of its Coordinators, were at the secretariat of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, on Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road, Ijaiye-Ojokoro, on Wednesday, 8th April, 2020, where over 400 people from various communities within the LCDA were served with a pack of cooked jollof rice each, in disposable food packs, as their hands were also sanitized by members of the group.
According to Mr. Aduli, the gesture is meant to compliment government’s efforts in keeping people at home, to contain further spread of Corona virus among Lagosians in particular and Nigerians generally.
He also disclosed that the programme, which is in conjunction with FADAMA project, is designed to cover all the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state, with particular focus on the most vulnerable in the society, irrespective of their tribal, religious and political affiliations.
The Coordinator further stated that personal data of each recipient, such as home address, telephone number and size of each family would be collected and collated to enable the group plan for the distribution of more relief packages in form of raw food stuffs, which he said, would be delivered at their various homes, in order to observe government’s precautionary directive on social distancing and avoid unnecessary gathering.
Members of the group were received by the Council’s Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services, Hon. Harold Otule-Davies, on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Hammed Idowu D. Tijani.
Hon. Otule-Davies praised members of the group for their good initiatives, which he described as commendable and worthy of emulation.
He therefore called on other groups and corporate organizations, as well as wealthy individuals in the society, to emulate the group’s kind gesture, by supporting government’s efforts in fighting the spread of Corona virus, with the donation of relief food items, which will keep people in their homes, thus reducing the spread of the deadly CONVID-19 pandemic.
One of the recipients, Mr. Yemi Ogendengbe, applauded the group for coming to the needs of the vulnerable at this critical period.
Another recipient, Mrs. Makanjuola Gafar, who spoke in local language, equally thanked the group and appealed to the government to provide more relief packages to cushion the effects of the stay at home order, as a result of the ravaging Corona virus pandemic, which has so far claimed the life of three people in Lagos State.
Other members of the group that distributed the food to the people includes the FADAMA President, Mr.Dare Ogunbanjo; Alhaji Najeem; Mr. James Enajite and a member of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ojokoro LCDA Chapter, Dr. Femi Lambe, amongst others.
