Iron is required for a baby’s growth and red meat is a very good source of iron for babies. The red meat provides an easily digestible form of iron for babies and this helps the baby’s red blood cell to carry oxygen to other cells throughout the whole body. The iron is also important for the baby’s brain development and so it should be an integral part of a baby’s meal as an iron deficiency in the baby of the baby can lead to learning and behavior problems.
Eggs can be regarded as a pack of essential nutrients as each part of an egg provides the baby with a different and unique vitamin. Egg whites are mainly protein and the yolks provide zinc and vitamin A, D, E and B12. The yolk of the egg is also choline which is essential for the baby’s brain health and development.
Avocados though oftentimes considered as a vegetable is a fruit, which remains one of the best food materials for babies. They contain more nutrients than any of their food group (kin). Avocados have the highest protein content among other fruits and are rich in monounsaturated fat which is a good type of fat that helps prevent heart disease. Avocados because of its fat content should be mashed well and given to babies in small quantities.
Fruits generally are filled with nutrients that help in the growth of a baby and banana is one of them. Bananas are full of carbohydrates that provide energy as well as fiber to support a healthy digestive tract. Bananas are what we can call a perfect baby food as it comes with an easy-to-pill packaging. Only ripe bananas which are thoroughly mashed should be served to babies.
* Sweet potatoes
Just like adults, most babies love sweet potatoes because of their naturally sweet taste. Sweet potatoes are rich in potassium, vitamin C, and fiber and it’s also an excellent source of beta-carotene which helps in fighting cancer.
Carrots just like sweet potatoes have a large amount of beta-carotene, an antioxidant that gives them their orange color. It converts into vitamin A in the body and plays a role in the growth and healthy vision. Carrots can be cooked for babies as this brings out its sweetness which makes it appealing to babies. They should be cooked until they become very soft for babies to consume.
* Baby Cereal
Baby cereals are rich in iron which helps the baby in her proper growth and development. Since breast milk only contains a little amount of iron, this means that a better source of iron is needed for the baby’s development. Based on this, medical experts recommend rice cereal because it is rich in iron as the first food for babies. This is because it is less likely to cause an allergic reaction unlike the other grains. It can be mixed with fruits for babies.
Chicken is rich in protein and a very good source of vitamin B6 which helps the body to extract energy from food. Babies need to consume large amounts of protein as a means to support their growth.
* Citrus fruits
Oranges, lemons, and grapefruits are examples of citrus fruits. These fruits are good sources of vitamin C, which helps to heal cuts and aids the absorption of iron from other foods. They are also rich in potassium which helps in muscle contraction and is important for maintaining a healthy fluid balance in the body. Citrus fruits are very acidic and experts advise that parents should not give their baby citrus fruits until after their first birthday.
Peas are very rich in vitamin K, a nutrient that works hand in hand with calcium to help build the bones. They are also a good source of vitamins A and C, folic acid and vitamin B. Peas in a baby’s meal help to boost the fiber in a baby’s diet which is very important for healthy growth in babies.
