Trump suspends all travels from Europe: US President DonaldTrump has placed restrictions on all travels from Europe to the US excluding Uk, for the next 30 days to control the spread of the coronavirus.
Mr Trump stated that the decision is necessary but would not apply to the UK, which has about 460 cases recorded already.
In his statement, the US president said “To keep new cases from entering our shores, we will be suspending all travel from Europe and the decision is meant to take effect from Friday at midnight. The travel order does not apply to US citizens He added.
Mr Trump said the European Union had “failed to take the same precautions” as the US in fighting the virus.
A Presidential Proclamation, published shortly after Mr Trump’s speech, specified that the ban applies to anyone who has been in the EU’s Schengen border-free area within 14 days before their arrival in the US.
He said the travel suspension would also “apply to the tremendous amount of trade and cargo” coming from Europe into the US which he later updated in his official twitter handle saying that the”trade will in no way be affected” by the new measures.
So far, there are 1,135 confirmed cases of the virus across the US, with 38 deaths and to stop the further spread, there is a need to prevent travels from countries with a high number of cases.
