Your life is in your hands, Ayade warns as borders reopens

The Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, has urged the people of Cross River State to take responsibility by protecting themselves from contracting coronavirus as the Federal Government reopens state borders across the country.

Ben Ayade, the Executive Governor of Cross River State has urged citizens and residents of the state to take their lives in their own hands as the federal government opens the inter-state borders. Thus making it difficult to protect the citizens from contracting the coronavirus pandemic through the borders.

He said this at the state’s COVID-19 Free celebration with aides and other cabinet members at the state capital.

“For us as a state, we no longer have control over borders. While borders are open, our eyes will remain open. We must prepare ourselves for the onslaught. I believe Cross River has fought a great fight. That is why we lead from the front. Cross River has handed over to the Federal Government with the opening of borders”, he said.

While Xtraying the state’s commitments and contribution to ensuring the state is COVID-19 free. He said the state has expended so much money on the fight of the virus as prevention is far better and cheaper than to cure. Noting that Cross River State has invested billions of naira to combat the virus and its spread in the state.

“For people to doubt our Covid-19 free status is not to notice the billions of naira spent on fighting the virus”, he said.

He made known that the state would gain nothing by hiding the virus as that could result in mass deaths in the state.

“Dear Cross Riverians, I must congratulate all of you for going through phase one without any confirmed case of Covid-19. With the easing of restrictions and the opening of borders and the airport, it’s actually time for all of us to individually shut down. Take responsibility; protect yourself”, Ayade concluded.
