Buhari approves postponement of National Sports Festivals: President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday approved the postponement of National Sports Festival over coronavirus.
The minister of sports, Sunday Dare said his Excellency came up with the decision after a meeting with the Minister of Health for the state, Olorunmibe Mamora in Abuja.
“Following the meeting of Mr. President, myself and the Minister of State for Health on COVID 19, Mr. President approved the immediate postponement of Edo Sports festival to a future date,” Dare made this known in a tweet on Tuesday.
The president’s decision is geared towards combating the spread of Convid-19 which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Mr. Dare said the youth and sports ministry was working closely with the health ministry and competent health authorities on the coronavirus spread and the threat it poses to sports gatherings
“Properly guided, we will make the best decision in the interest of public health safety,” Dare said hours before the postponement.
The National Sports Festival (NSF) Edo 2020 was scheduled to begin on March 22, 2020, and end on April 1 in Benin City.
